Hail is not a soft snowflake
It doesn't have a pretty
Or unique
Or admirable
Design
Nobody makes snow angels in piles of hail
Nobody makes snowmen out of hail
Nobody has lighthearted snowball fights with hail
Hail is violent
Hail is dangerous
Hail may hurt on impact
It is not a tickly little flake
It does not fall delicately onto the ground
It does not excite small children
And nobody sings of the glories of hail
Hail and snowflakes are both ice crystals
Crystals
A word that strikes an image so beautiful
And pointy
And dangerous
And magical
Snow crystals, a heart shared by both hail and snowflakes
A heart that shares its snow-white beauty
A heart that shares its icy pain
Hail comes in different sizes
As snowflakes come in different shapes
Hail does not always hurt
And snowflakes are not always a sight of beauty
Let it snow, let it hail, let it snow
