Innocent Wish

by: Pranjal K. Singh

On tenterhooks, they tripped over their tiny steps

Scampering across the world all conspicuous

Nowhere to retire, nowhere to come

They craved to grab a hold of the salubrious night

Shop lights floodlighted as their eyes widen

They danced while hearing the carols in the distance

Everyone seemed to be so blithesome

With snow falling and snowman sitting quiescent

On the grounds that are covered in white

They sat on the ground, at the corner of the street

Watching the world sinking in delectation

They awaited the moment Santa could fulfill their innocent wish

So they can ask for nights where they will not go to sleep

With an empty stomach, or with any despondency
